Derfla is a self-taught artist and North Carolina local. He paints in oil on canvas, and since he began painting 8 years ago, has completed more than 400 paintings. The subjects of many of Derfla’s paintings are people, animals, flowers, cityscapes, or landscapes; however, he has also created numerous abstract paintings.

Derfla uses a unique, energetic painting style that applies thick strokes of color to each painting, giving them a literal third dimension that you won't find in other pieces. The surface rises and falls with each stroke, rather than remaining flat, and gives each piece distinctive details. Because of this unusual style, each piece is totally unique, and cannot be replicated.
